uPcycle at the International Fertiliser Society Conference 2026

uP Cycle's work was presented at the 2026 IFS Conference, hosted by the International Fertiliser Society at the University of Warwick, UK. The conference brings together researchers, industry specialists, agronomists and policymakers from across the crop nutrition and fertiliser sectors to explore challenges and opportunities relating to sustainable plant nutrition, nutrient management and environmental stewardship.

During the conference, Prof Will Brownlie of the uPcycle Coordination Team presented on nutrient pollution and freshwater restoration, highlighting the importance of connecting catchment management, lake restoration and community action to address the growing challenge of eutrophication.

A particular focus was the Global Lakes Explorer and the uPcycle National Phosphorus Action Planning Framework, developed to improve access to information on lake condition and nutrient pressures at regional and global scales. By making environmental data more accessible to researchers, practitioners and policymakers, the platform helps support the actions needed to reduce nutrient losses, improve water quality and strengthen the sustainable management of freshwater ecosystems.

The conference provided an important opportunity to connect freshwater scientists with experts working across the wider fertiliser and crop nutrition sector. These discussions highlighted the value of collaboration across the nutrient management continuum, from agricultural production and fertiliser use through to water quality protection and ecosystem restoration. Through engagement at events such as the IFS Conference, uPcycle continues to contribute to the exchange of knowledge needed to support more sustainable nutrient management and healthier aquatic ecosystems worldwide.
