The uPcycle Inception Meeting

The Inception Meeting on March 27th, 2024, drew over 70 attendees from across the globe.

Maisa Rojas, the Ministry for Environment, Chile, delivered the opening address. Presentations covered various topics including global phosphorus sustainability, the net zero phosphorus approach, and the United Nations Environment Programme's (UNEP) ongoing efforts to tackle nutrient issues. Updates were provided on phosphorus pollution in global lakes with respect to SDG-6, the work of UNEP's World Water Quality Alliance, and current phosphorus management in Chile's Lake Villarica catchment.

Following this, project component leaders outlined the projects plans to develop tools and resources for sustainable phosphorus management in lake catchments worldwide and specifically in Chile. Isabelle Vanderbeck, UNEP's task manager for the project, delivered concluding remarks.
